The Tutorials

What this site is about (and what it’s not about) …

There are a lot of techniques that fall under the heading of “Grunge.” This site is going to be about Grunge Photography, and perhaps more distinctly: Grunge Photography and Photo-Collage. You may find a little surrealism thrown in here and there in some compositions (where we twist reality a bit), but for the most part the subjects of the work here will involve the straight grungification of photographs, whether singly or composited in layers.

What you’re not going to find here are tutorials on using Photoshop to somehow create a piece of photo-realistic burnt paper … or how to use Photoshop to create vector-based ad layouts … or how to use Photoshop to painstakingly craft a snazzy fake metallic texture effect … (I’d prefer you just go take a photo of something metal and slap it in there.)

This site is going to be foremost about using Photoshop in your work with grunging up photography, with an overriding emphasis on creating strong compositions and completed works of art.

(You might see some stuff here about grunging up some typography. Sometimes adding some typography to a grunge composition can have a really strong effect. But that’s about as “built-with-Photoshop” as we’re going to get.)

You’re going to start seeing some tutorials here, categorized by the kind of work being done. Check back soon (and often). This is going to be some great stuff.
